Facts & Info

Rear Panels and Door Wedges

We know that the early Convertible Ds had rear interior upholstered panels on each side of the rear shelf (see photo at right). So far, VINs 85514 (lowest VIN to report) until 85851 (latest car to report, build & delivery dates: 12/xx/59) probably had the rear panels. Convertible D 85845 also reported having the rear panels, but it has a later delivery date of 01/07/59. Can your D extend that range? Please let us know.

Early Convertible Ds also had aluminum "door wedges" in the lock post (photo at left) until sometime in mid to late-April 1959. So far, the latest D reporting to have the early door wedges is VIN 86219 built in early April, 1959. 86226 has reported it does not have them (and has original doors). Owners of VINs 86227 or later, please let us know if your car has door wedges.

Door pockets, pocket flaps and key

Door pockets were placed on both of the Convertible D's interior door panels. A lockable flap with a key was optional on driver's side. As production continued, the driver's side lockable flap became more standard. The passenger's side had either the plain pocket or the optional pocket with the locking flap. The key opened either flap and was usable on any Convertible D. See photos shown below.
